LESSONS

Looking to improve your backhand or develop a stronger forehand? Maybe you want to cultivate a more powerful stroke, fine-tune your serve technique, or focus on improving shot selection. Whether you’re interested in improving your physical game or enhancing your mental game, whether you’re a casual player or a serious competitor, the Westfield Tennis Club’s resident tennis pros, Brian Maloney, Lexi Borr and Gary Wasserman, will personalize your lesson to help you improve your tennis game.

Lexi Borr joins WTC this summer as the Junior Development Director. While competing on the junior circuit, Lexi was consistently ranked in the top 10 nationally and #1 in New Jersey. After a dominant junior career as a blue chip recruit, Lexi went on to earn a full scholarship to play NCAA Division I singles & doubles at Boston College in the ACC conference. She had a successful college career competing in the first singles and first doubles position, and graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. Lexi was a four year varsity letter winner and was named team captain her senior year. Lexi also competed in a handful of professional events on the circuit around the world. Today, Lexi’s passion for the sport is as strong as ever. She works closely with her mother, Marcy Borr, as the head pro at Westfield Indoor Tennis Club. Her infectious energy, knowledge of all aspects of the game, and ability to inspire her students makes her an outstanding coach for players of all levels.

Brian began his tennis career in Chatham, NJ. He played varsity tennis as well as held the position of head tennis professional at Chatham Fish and Game Club his senior year of high school. He moved on to play tennis for St. Leo University in Florida, and worked his summers as the head tennis professional at Fairmount Country Club in Chatham. He has been at Warren Health and Racquets Club for more than 25 years where he has enjoyed teaching tennis to all levels and ages of children and adults in privates, group lessons, and drills. Brian initiated and has overseen, for 25+ years, the Borough of Fanwood Adult and Junior Tennis Program. He also recently introduced a popular Pickleball Program to the town. For 10 years, Brian was the Director of Tennis at Raritan Valley Country Club where he guided several ladies teams to the next level. Brian is PTR and PPR-certified and also enjoys being a member of the APTA and playing a great deal of paddle.

Gary has been playing tennis since the age of 9 and was ranked in the top 20 in the state of New Jersey during his junior career.  He was also a highly ranked player in the USTA when he played on the James Caldwell High School Varsity Team.
